The Riot

Is it too much to ask that we focus on an actress’ ability to act?

dcwomenkickingass:

Back a few weeks ago when the casting for Dark Knight Rises was announced there was a troubling them in the coverage and commenting on Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle as Catwoman. Over and over again, the question was asked, “is she sexy enough?” Maddy, Kelly and I addressed the issue of the emphasis on actresses looks on the “3 Chicks” podcast.

And today I am getting equally frustrated by the comments about the new Wonder Woman, Adrianne Palicki.

Below is just a sampling of some of the comments on the web.

If you ever thought you understood comics, women, Wonder Woman, or life in general, prepare to be proven wrong.

THIS genius knows WAY more than you do about these topics, even if he doesn’t seem to know a damn thing about any of them.

This is without question THE dumbest piece I’ve seen on the…

"Unfortunately, being a woman in society means that sometimes you have to sort of quell what is instinctually broad and magnificent and magical about you…I don’t know if that’s necessarily relegated to being a woman, because we’re all so worried about fitting in and not sticking out. [But] what’s great about this whole [comic book] genre is that it’s all about sticking out. It’s all about being magnificent to the highest power."

A fantastic rebuttal to the abhorent “Girls Guide to Comic Con” feature run by the LA Times, insisting women would be interested in attending Comic Con entirely to talk about Twilight and drool over Brad Pitt and Jake Jake Gyllenhaal.

Strangely, some people take offense when you hurt their friends and family. Keep this in mind.

First impressions are important. While all she says is “Hello, Nazi,” her body language indicates what she means is “Hello, Nazi. Your face and my fist should quickly become aquainted!”

(And for those of you who are interested? Gail Simone is writing the current Wonder Woman story arc and it is AMAZING. The latest issue just came out this week. Also, later this summer, she’s giving us a Wonder Woman and Black Canary team up story for two issues!)

That’s a woman with a lot of weapons, guys. Just give it up.
